Florida offers K–12 students and their families several types of school choice, including three private school choice programs, charter schools, magnet schools, home schooling and inter-and intra-district public school choice via open enrollment policies.

Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options
Florida’s Empowerment Scholarship (FES-EO) ESA Program allows K–12 students to receive an ESA funded by the state and administered by an approved Scholarship Funding Organization (SFO). This program offers universal eligibility, usage, and funding. Students cannot participate in Florida’s FES-EO and FES-UA programs simultaneously.
Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities
Florida’s Family Empowerment Scholarship Program for Students with Unique Abilities allows students with special needs an opportunity to receive an education savings account (ESA) funded by the state and administered by an approved Scholarship Funding Organization (SFO). Parents can use funds to pay for a variety of educational services. Students cannot participate in Florida’s FES-EO and FES-UA programs simultaneously.
Private School Choice
Florida has three private school choice programs, two education savings accounts (ESAs), and a tax-credit scholarship. Public School Choice
Florida allows parents to transfer to traditional public schools outside and within their district via two open enrollment policies. Florida also allows magnet schools.
Charter School Choice
Florida has a robust charter school community. Charter schools are publicly funded schools that are free of many of the regulations that restrict traditional public schools.
Home School Choice
Parents have to follow certain laws in Florida when homeschooling their children.
